The Woman in Cabin 10

The Woman in Cabin 10 is an edge of your seat who-dun-it with a fantastic cast and Agatha Christie vibe.

Synopsis: Based on the bestselling novel by Ruth Ware, this mystery-thriller stars Keira Knightley as a journalist aboard a luxury yacht for a travel assignment who witnesses a passenger thrown overboard late at night, only to be told that it didn’t happen, as all passengers and crew are accounted for. Despite no one believing her, she continues to look for answers, putting her own life in danger. The film co-stars recent Oscar nominee Guy Pearce and Hannah Waddingham.

I am sure author Ruth Ware would welcome the Christie comparison. This story made me think of both Death on the Nile as well as more recent Knives Out mysteries. Not having read the book I found myself stumped as to what was going on. Keira Knightley plays renowned journalist Laura Blacklock. Laura is convinced she witnessed another passenger go overboard, but with no proof and everyone else thinking she is crazy she has the arduous task of figuring it out.

As viewers we assume she saw what she saw. The mystery is, who was it? She was invited by mega-wealthy Richard Bullmer (Guy Pearce) and his wife. They are joined by the jet-set and a few celebs for this maiden yacht voyage. Blacklock is not a member for the pack and therefore has no one in her corner other than an old friend and invited photographer (David Ajala).

The story moves nicely and you feel the tension as Laura continues to try and convince everyone of what she saw. Accusations fly and anxiety rises. Her host is trying to be gracious while also wanting the trip to be a celebration and good time. When clues start to fall in place and we find out that not everyone is who they seem to be, then it becomes a battle for survival.

Keira Knightley is perfect for this role and very good in it. She is tenacious but also vulnerable and at times out of place. This awkwardness is believable due to how Knightly moves about in the character. The rest of the cast play their parts as they should. Bystanders looking in as this woman rants about something that can’t possibly be true. Some do it with grace while others take a more angry approach to having their weekend upset.

If you are wanting a perfect October streamer this is the the one. I theater worthy movie delivered right into your Netflix cue.
