SYNOPSIS: Lambs of God is an epic gothic drama about faith, love, and redemption. It tells the story of three Catholic nuns, the last sisters of the Order of St. Agnes, who live alone and forgotten in a rundown monastery on a remote island. When a young and ambitious priest appears, determined to sell the estate, the three women are caught up in a conflict between passion and their beliefs.
Goth is a hard genre to master. It is often too mainstream or worse tries to hide a feeble attempt behind capes, castles, and gargoyles. This story comes at the style subtly. The sisters of St. Agnes are weather worn and odd. They are eccentric in a Grimm sort of way with their conversations and personalities. The show hooks you immediately as you get the sense that there is something going on at the monastery that they want to keep secret; especially when a hot young priest comes poking about. As the episodes continue so do the layers and fun.
The filming feels multi dimensional. One moment you would swear you are in the earliest of centuries then a random prop or statement will zip you back to the modern world.
The series contains 4 episodes and each is a tick shorter that an hour. You can easily binge this in half a day then revisit your favorite moments. I might be a tad twisted but I found it almost whimsical at times. It is beautifully shot and directed with spot on acting from all. The cast, Jessica Barden in particular, seem to be having a blast creating such askew characters. It is worth the time for sure and highly entertaining.
