We are watching The Watcher. This new Netflix thriller seems a perfect option for October, and being a 7 episode mini makes it even more appealing.
The Watcher debuted on Netflix October 13th. This suburban thriller has an all star cast including Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Jennifer Coolidge, Mia Farrow, and Margo Martindale. I always give a new series at least two episodes before I will commit. This one has me intrigued enough to keep watching. They have a lot of work cut out for them ver the next 5 episodes though. I can see this one becoming repetitive if not careful.
Logline: After the Brannock family moves into what was supposed to be their suburban dream home, it quickly becomes a living hell. Ominous letters from someone calling themself “The Watcher” are just the beginning as the neighborhood’s sinister secrets come spilling out. Inspired by the true story of the infamous “Watcher” house in New Jersey.
I could never have pictured Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale as a married couple. I am a huge fan of both actors, but you know how it is. You can have those two friends in your group that you would never see together but when it happens you are like, wow, ok, this works after all.
They have wonderful on screen chemistry, and Bobby has become one of those actors who can convey a wide range of depth and emotion. I was a fan from the first time I saw him in The Staton Agent, and have been ever since. In this one he is a husband and father watching his dream home scenario crumble around him due to creepy letters that start arriving. Obviously one of his neighbors is coo-coo for coco puffs and making his life a living hell.
The film is based on a true story and one of my critic friends asked if I googles it to find out what really happened. I personally can’t do that. My wife loves knowing what happens and then watch it play out. I am the opposite. I want every element to be a surprise as I try to figure it out along the way. In fact, after E2 I have a pretty good idea what is going on. I hope I am wrong. That makes it fun.
The series is 7 episodes long and you can binge it in a weekend or take your time and savor it. Either way I would recommend giving it a shot. Fans of the creepy, thrillers will find this one right up their well manicured lawn alleys.
