A timid butcher and his drama-queen twin sister adventure to Australia in search of their birth mother, but the seemingly tolerant townsfolk are hiding a dark, meaty secret.

Most film festivals have been postponed due to Covid-19. One thing I miss is the midnight screenings. Those guilty pleasure films that you sort of watch with one eye closed and your gag reflex in check. TWO HEADS CREEK certainly filled the void for me when it comes to an over the top horror feast. Not on everyones taste buds but a whole lot of fun for those with an appetite for the gore.

Writer/star Jordan Waller has one sick mind and director Jesse O’Brien makes full use of it in this one. Norman (Waller) and his sister Annabelle  (Kathryn Wilder) head to Australia to find info on their birth mother. What they encounter are a group of small town people who are obviously up to no good. That is all you really need to know about this movie and the rest is just a stomach turning joy ride.

What I “loved” most about this film was that they never had to say what was going on for you to know what is going on. They allow your mind to come to terms with it whether you want to or not. From the opening scene there is a queasy aura hanging over it that just crawls all over your flesh. You don’t want to think about it. But you know it is there. It is this subtle dance with the unspoken that makes you so uneasy. The nonchalant use of sausage in any other film would be overlooked. Here it dares you to look at it. You have no reason to shy away from it. But for some reason you just do. Then at about 57-minutes into the film; oh my. Let’s just say you better be done with your snacks by then.

Many films in this genre rely solely on the macabre but Waller and O’Brien never let the art of filmmaking and story telling take a back seat. There is attention paid to the basic details. The set locations, wardrobe, how the characters interact; all add to the experience. Plus it is just funny. It is meant to be humorous in spite of what you see on screen. How these characters kept a straight face in beyond me. Eric (David Adlam) was my favorite to watch and I was always excited to see him enter a scene. I am not sure you can direct a performance like that or if you just give them a motive and let it rip. I hope he had as much fun doing it as we had watching.

I don’t want to give away too much because to be honest most of the enjoyment of these flicks is the shock value you never know is coming. Just rest assured that if you love your horror bloody, sarcastic, and not to be taken seriously, this is the one for you. It is unrated and for mature audiences so please let the kiddos go to bed first. Then turn out the lights and have a blast.
