True Detective Night Country

Season 4 of the MAX series TRUE DETECTIVE premiers on Sunday January 14th 2024. Titled Night Country this one takes place in a fictional town in Alaska. The darkness and Alaskan folklore add an eerie vibe that permeates all 6 episodes.

Jodi Foster leads a solid cast as Detectives Liz Danvers. Eight scientists go missing from a research station and Liz and her small town team have to solve the mystery just as the season of darkness descends.

My family and I binged the entire season over the holiday break and found it to be one of the best in the series. The year has just started and Foster as well as costar Kali Reis already have my acting vote. The series also stars John Hawkes and Finn Bennett.

Along with the crime this season also deals with small town politics, cover up, and indigenous folklore.

EP 1 – which premiers Sunday Jan 14th with a new episode each following week – has Liz and Evangeline (Reis) facing their demons from the past as they try to find out about eight lost men in Alaska.
