Toy Story 5

Toy Story 5 is streaming on Disney+ and a really solid watch if you missed it in the theaters. Seldom do we get five deep in a franchise and find great things to say. Granted after Toy Story 4 there was nowhere to go but up. We were ready to stick a forky in the Toy Story world and call it done.

Synopsis: Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs are challenged when they’re introduced to electronics, a new threat to playtime. | 1h 42m | Rated PG for some thematic elements and rude humor.

Many who have watched this franchise since it started in 1995 have seen their kids grow up with Andi and now Bonnie. For those late to the game there has been not as much to hold on to even though the movies have been really emotional and touching. Still not talking about you Forky.

If you want a crash course in who is who you can stream all the TS films on Disney+. If four mocies seem daunting just the first one would suffice, or one and three. Even if you go into this one cold it is easy to catch up and understand what is happening.

Has there been a more relevant TS film than this one? I do not think so. This story lives in the word of toys and play as all the regulars, Buzz (Tim Allen), Woody (Tom Hanks), Jessie (Joan Cusack) and the crew are back to protect young Bonnie from growing up too fast. The obstacle in their way is the same one that trips us all up. Those dreaded electronic devices that dull our creativity and steal our ability to play. As Bonnie embraces her new Lily Pad devise she leaves behind her favorite toys. Between Lily Pad and the peer pressure of her friends who no longer play with toys, this could spell trouble for Bonnie.

This one pokes a lot of good natured fun at the old toys with Woody being the recipient of most of the jokes. The writers also do a swell job of weaving in the evolution of electronic toys and how they too have been left behind for the latest and greatest craze.

I am not sure how animated toys can evoke such emotion from a viewer but dang this one will catch you when you lease expect it. If you have grown kids, young tots, or are in the throws of the screentime delima there is something here for you.

A solid 4 out of 5 bars on the streaming chart.
