The Suicide Squad

The government sends the most dangers Super-Villains in the world – Bloodsport, Peacemaker, King Shark, Harley Quinn and others – to the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Armed with high-tech weapons, they trek through the dangerous jungle on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave. As always, on wrong move and they’re dead – whether at the hands of the ultimate Kaiju, Starro the Conqueror; a teammate; or Waller herself. If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them. All of them.

James Gunn brings us a balls to the wall action trip that rivals all other squad flicks. Action packed and jammed with humor, this is a DC flick I can get behind. There are a lot of layers to this film which I didn’t quite get in the first Suicide Squad. Maybe I am more familiar with the characters and missions which allowed me to then invest in the insanity of it all. Regardless this one – even though still over the top violent – was a lot more fun to watch.

Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Harley Quinn, and Kingshark. These are four characters I could watch on a weekly basis. So much fun, so uniquely different, and each with their own personal motive and agenda. Thrown together in a squad and everything that could go wrong does. But yet it all works out. No way it could on paper. But luckily this is a movie. So, yah!

James Gunn had his work cut out for him yet he is able to make sense of it all. The balance of over the top violence, laugh out loud dialogue, and even compassion all come together nicely. It truly was a blast to watch.

I am sure the 4K version of this thing is amazing. WBHE provided me with the Blu-ray combo pack which still looked and sounded fantastic. Even the digital version pops nicely.
