The old rules of the Purge are broken as members of an underground movement, no longer satisfied with the annual night of anarchy and murder, decide to overtake America through an unending campaign of mayhem and massacre. No one is safe. On the morning after the Purge, a masked gang of killers attacks a wealthy Texas ranching family and their workers. Exposed by daylight, the two groups are forced to band together and fight back as the country spirals into chaos and the United States begins to disintegrate around them.

• VISUAL – I reviewed the Bu-ray version and the 4K probably looks a bit better. This one was not bad at all, just what you would expect in a normal Blu-Ray
• AUDIO – It was a standard mix and on par with what you would get on today’s blu-ray. The dialogue was crisp and that is always the main thing. Films like this have to keep you on edge even when nothing is happening. The score and mix of love level audio helped with that.
• FEATURES – A few solid behind the scenes peeks. We normally don’t get craft people on extras. That was nice.

I have to admit that I have not seen any of the previous purge films in their entirety. I would catch part of one here and there and watch for a bit, then move on. That said, I found this one to be a lot better than I expected. Watching it from beginning to end I was surprised by the depth of writing and acting that normally come in this genre of film – in my opinion.

This franchise has stood the test of time and like others before it I am sure the dedicated fans are very pleased with this one. Maybe I am too old school but I still prefer SAW and HALLOWEEN series’ as my October go to. That has nothing to do with how good or bad this one is. Luckily the horror world has something for us all.
