The Boss Baby: Family Business

The Boss Baby

THE BOSS IS BACK, BABY!  DREAMWORKS ANIMATION PRESENTS THE COMEDY EVENT OF THE SUMMER!  ALEC BALDWIN, JEFF GOLDBLUM, ARIANA GREENBLATT, JIMMY KIMMEL, LISA KUDROW, EVA LONGORIA, JAMES MARSDEN AND AMY SEDARIS IN THE BOSS BABY: FAMILY BUSINESS.  RATED PG.  IN THEATERS AND STREAMING ON PEACOCK JULY 2ND

Commentary: The first Boss Baby film had a unique concept which it used to its advantage in order to create some humorous moments. Whether a parent or a sibling we know what it is like when the new baby shows up. The world changes. The first film used that dynamic and built a story around it. This 2nd installment needed a new point of view and uses the power of brotherly bond and the family unit to create a fun new adventure.

Tim and Teddy are all grown up now. Tim has a wife and two young daughters while Teddy – big surprise – has built a business empire. When an enemy shows up with a plan to destroy all the parents in the word so that babys can rule, it is up to the two borthers to join forces once again. But there is a new “Boss” in town in the form of Tim’s youngest daughter who, like her Uncle Theodore, is a member of Baby Corp too.

This was a fun little film to watch with the family. My 9-year old son was a big fan of the original and we had a blast watching this installment as well. We found ourselves laughing at entirely different things for different reasons. There is a lot in here about what it means to be a family and how important time spent together is. Tim and Teddy have grown apart slightly and do not spend enough quality time together like they used to. Most adults will be able to relate to that feeling for sure.

Jeff Goldblum joins the voice cast as Dr. Armstrong. His voice alone creates a quirky character who becomes an important part of this story. The writers did not rely too heavily on past jokes or scenarios. There is enough borrowed to ground it to the original but at the same time the concept stands alone. The animation is spot on too which adds to the experience.

Should you see it in the theater or stream it on Peacock? This is a question we are going to be answering more and more in the future. If your family likes going to the theater as a troupe this is not a bad option. If you want to all snuggle on the couch with some less expensive snacks and enjoy it at your leisure, that is cool too. This one works in both arenas.

THE BOSS BABY: FAMILY BUSINESS is rated PG for some rude humor, mild language, and some action. I give it a B for… yes, baby.
