Strange World is now available on Digital and will be released on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD February 14.
One of the “stranger” Disney films to come along in some time, Strange World offers funny aliens, father and discussions, and colorful animation. The film includes an all star cast of voice talent with Jake Gyllenhaal, Gabrielle Union, Lucy Liu, Alan Tudyk, and Dennis Quaid.
There is a lot about this script that is unnecessary, and any attempt at relevance feels forced. The parts that aren’t nonsensical sadly come across as simply boring.
I feel like this story has been done so many times and the lack of originality is shocking coming from the kings of animation. Even the alien characters feel borrowed from the 80s or 90s. If this attempt at nostalgia was intentional it is not solid enough to be evident.
Not to be all negative there are a couple of laughs and some sweet moments in this one. I think the writers had an opportunity to do more but allowed themselves to get in their own way.
Now that this one is available on digital you can make your own decision for sure. Strange World is rated PG for action/peril and some thematic elements.
