Poker Face, the new detective series on Peacock has some dang fine writing and an instant hook. The show caught my eye initially due to it being created by Rian Johnson (Glass Onion, Knives Out, Star Wars: The Last Jedi). The first four episodes in this 10 Episode series are now available to stream on Peacock with new episodes to follow each Thursday.
About the series: Poker Face is a 10-episode mystery-of-the-week series following Natasha Lyonne’s Charlie, who has an extraordinary ability to determine when someone is lying. She hits the road with her Plymouth Barracuda and with every stop encounters a new cast of characters and strange crimes she can’t help but solve.
Natacha Lyonne is a one-of-a-kind actress, writer, and producer who brings an element to Charlie that few actresses could. Charlie’s “gift” of being able to call BS when she sees it allows her to get to the heart of a mystery regardless of how well it is covered up. She isn’t law enforcement and she doesn’t really do it for a self motivated gratification. She just likes the truth, and the smallest untrue will drive her crazy until she flushes it out.
I love that it has that throwback look and feel of the mystery series I grew up watching in the 1970s and early 1980s. Yes, they had television back then. Natasha Lyonne will be joined each week by a star studded cast. This too reminds me of shows like Columbo who would bring in popular stars to be the baddy, or the damsel in distress. Another thing we had in the 70s.
