Monarch Legacy of Monsters slays

One of the best new series wrapped as MONARCH: LEGACY OF MONSTERS had its finale this week on Apple TV Plus..

I am a big fan of the Monsterverse series that started in 2014 with Godzilla. It included Kong Skull Island, Godzilla King of the Monsters, Godzilla Vs Kong, and will add a new one this year with Godzilla X Kong The New Empire. Where they supposedly join together.

My favorite of that series is Kong Skull Island. I watch it a few times a year at least. LEGACY of MONSTERS references a lot of that film in this series as well as the events in San Francisco. That could be one reason I loved it so much. It is safe to call it a Bill Randa origin story. Randa was played by John Goodman in Skull Island.

An added bonus this Apple TV Plus series is that it stars Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt Russell playing the same role in different decades. No need for CGI there. They look and sound so similar.

The series has an equal amount of pre-monarch startup in the late 50s as well as 2015 post monster attack. It is a story that never loses its continuity as it bounces back and forth. The fact that it references the Skull island movie so well after all these years shows expert writing and attention to detail.

If you are looking for an all out monster series this is not it. Yes there are some cool monster moments but it is mainly about Monarch and two siblings trying to locate their father. There are a lot of aha moments that I wont give away here.

It is a 10 episode series that easily sets itself up for a season 2. I for one am hoping we get it. Or at least something else in the monarch world.
