I Still Believe (2020)
PG | 1h 55min | Drama, Music, Romance
The true-life story of Christian music star Jeremy Camp and his journey of love and loss that looks to prove there is always hope.
I STILL BELIEVE is a wonderful film of hope and perspective. It is the story of two young people who meet, fall in love, and then have their world – and beliefs – shaken to the core. These are not two adults with decades of life and wisdom behind them. They have to make tough decisions with faith and optimism as their sole guide. When you grab onto that dynamic it elevates the power of their journey.

The film stars Britt Robertson as Melissa Henning and K.J Apa as Jeremy Camp. Their own screen chemistry make this film work more than anything. Above all it is a love story. And you believe it. The awkward first conversations, the shy glances, the sweaty palms; it is all there. And you root for them immediately. There is something infectious about young love. Most of us have drank of it and you never forget it. The filmmakers do a great job of solidifying their relationship. If we don’t buy that part the rest doesn’t impact us as powerfully.
Jeremy Camp penned a book that this is based on. Set in the early 2000’s when Melissa and Jeremy met in college it shows not only the early years of Camp’s intro into music but Melissa’s struggle with cancer. Camp has gone on to become one of Christian Music’s top selling artists and through the years his desire is always to tell her story.
Some would look at this film as a devastatingly sad story. And it is heartbreakingly sad. But the beauty of the film is how you come out the other side feeling. Melissa and Jeremy’s faith is contagious. You weep for them but not as one weeps for those with no hope. It will touch you and move you spiritually – regardless of your personal beliefs – because we all have something in us that longs for hope and healing. There are many emotions running through this one and the greatest of these, most assuredly, is love.
