Halloween Ends on October 14th! To be honest, if this is an indication of what we are getting from this monstrous franchise, I want it to end. Fans of the Laurie vs Michael rivalry deserved something far better than this. Michael Myers is one of the most iconic of all on screen villains and should not have this be the end of his legacy.
EVERY SCREAM. EVERY SCARE. HAS LED TO THIS. FROM EXECUTIVE
PRODUCER JOHN CARPENTER. JAMIE LEE CURTIS IN HALLOWEEN ENDS.
RATED R. IN THEATERS AND STREAMING ONLY ON PEACOCK OCTOBER 14TH.
There is nothing you will read here that hasn’t already been said in volumes by fans and critics alike. I had read some of those remarks before seeing this film and had hoped they were just haters hating. I thought there was no way that Halloween Ends could be as bad as everyone was saying. Truth is, it is worse.
Were is Michael?
If this is truly the last film in this franchise I need it to be wall to wall Myers. But we do not even see him until a third of the way in. And when we do it is not the Michael most of us – literally – have grown up with. I will not give away the details but having his hid away in this underground, Pennywise abode is ridiculous.
The movie opens strong with a shocking and visceral scene that makes you think we are in for a gruesome and emotional ride. But after that we get sad character after sad character so drenched in cliche and unrealistic caca that I actually wanted them all to die. I have never rooted for or missed Michael more.
Laurie is single and ready to mingle?
At least we get Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) early on. We find her after the events of Halloween Kills happier than ever. Never mind her daughter was killed along with many in the town. She has opened the blinds of life and let the light in. New hairdo, makeup, more attractive clothing. And she smiles a lot. The scenes with her and Frank (Will Patton) could be right out of the Hallmark Fall line up. Pumpkins and all.
The script is so horrible written that the only reason they show her happiness is to stress the underlying theme of the film that everything goes to hell. It does it in a way that is disjointed with no synergy or reason. The Laurie we see at the end of the film has no reflection on the one that starts. Instead she is exactly like we had in the 2018 Halloween. so what was the point of it all?
I asked that question a lot. What is the point? Nothing made sense. Not the dialogue, the characters, Michael, the evil townspeople. Nothing. I tried to give the creators of the film the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they were saying that Michael was like poison in the water. Contaminating everything he touches. Him living underground was like a cancer to the town and people. But after watching it all, I don’t think anyone writing this story is that smart. I am sorry but Paul Brad Logan has written nothing. So why would you trust him with this important franchise finale?
If all you want is violence and gore you might be happy. Once Michael does show up he kills with a ferociousness and creativity that is brutal. I wondered if he was picturing the writer and director as he was dishing out these punishments. I was.
Halloween Ends sadly with a horrible film. I want to say to Laurie and Michael that I am sorry these are the last moments we get with you. I wanted more, we all deserved more. You have been going strong since 1978 – yes with hits and misses – and your swan song should have hit much higher notes.
