GREEDY PEOPLE is a hilarious – in that dark Fargo type of way – crime comedy full of eccentric characters, zany action, and plenty of twists and turns. Hands down one of the craziest films you will see this year. GREEDY PEOPLE will arrive in Select Theaters & On Demand this Friday, August 23rd.
SYNOPSIS: In this darkly comedic crime thriller, rookie cop Will (Himesh Patel) and his rogue partner Terry (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) upend their small island town when they accidentally discover one million dollars at a crime scene (of their own making). After the duo unwisely decides to steal the money, the community’s quirky residents are lured into the mad dash for cash — ranging from an expectant mom (Lily James) to a masseur (Simon Rex) to a shrimp company owner (Tim Blake Nelson) — and everyone learns just how far they are willing to go for the almighty dollar.
Patel and Gordon-Levitt create the perfect buddy cop duo. Will is a serious newbie trying to fit in to small town law enforcement. Terry is the seasoned, local, loud mouthed, good old boy cop who makes it up as he goes along. I seriously would watch these two each week in a TV series. Levitt has proven he can be off the wall or serious. Unhinged is a new fun one to view. Patel as always endears us to his character from the jump. You like Will and hate to see how things play out.
Tim Blake Nelson is one of the best character actors in Hollywood and a joy to watch in this one. The crime centers around him and his wife and as the story unfolds we get plenty of his notable delivery. There are no minor characters in this film. You might think their are. People who seem supporting come out of nowhere to play a pivotal role. It certainly keeps you on your toes.
A small town can take on a life all its own. Everyone knows everyone else and it is hard to keep a secret. This town is no exception. It feels like a setting you want to revisit. Its people, landscape, and personality is an added bonus.
Lily James plays Will’s pregnant wife. She is pulled into the fray as the twist and turns surmount. No one can take a role like waitress. housewife, classic novel character, and elevate it as well as James can. She shines in this one, and again, takes a curve we didn’t see coming and delivers it wonderfully.
I was glad to hear this one is streaming as well as releasing in theaters. If you are wanting a slapstick comedy that will keep you guessing the whole way; give this one a shot.
Rated R for violence, language throughout and sexual content.
