Panos (Prometheus Aleifer), a city doctor, relocates his practice to a remote village and quickly falls for Danae (Anastasia Rafaella Konidi), who lives in isolation with a mysterious skin condition. Determined to find Danae a cure, Panos learns of her dark secret and that all is not what it seems.

Commentary: Sadly this film is just a mess of confusion, plot holes, and missed opportunity. That is a shame since it has a strong premise and solid acting from its cast. The first 30-minutes had me engaged and curious but the last two acts left me frustrated and wanting something more. ENTWINED is a good title for I felt like the film gets tangled up in its own story and trips about unsuccessfully.

Being in the Greek language with english subtitles – yes the obvious pun is there – wasn’t an issue. Often the story gets lost on translation but this one was simple enough to tell. The problem is that too much is left up to the viewers imagination. Sure, we think we know what is going on and the end basically confirms our beliefs. But it needed to be more a punch in the face instead of a casual aside. Not to mention the huge holes you could plant a redwood in. Not giving anything away but things happen that you are like, wait.. what?…when did that happen? These events are there to bring it all together but tossing them in with no regard to story is not good.

I get the feeling – with nothing to base it on – that this might be a Greek folk story told by generations. A spooky tale of a mysterious woman in the woods. And if you kids wander in there you may never come out again! Boo!  I can see the excitement of making it into a film but there just want enough to go on. Therefore you get repetition and odd conversations that are just there to fill up 90-minutes.

The woodsy setting is gothic fable in nature and a good backdrop for the story. The casting of the townspeople as well added depth and grounding. I just wish there had been more meat on the story bone. If you only want scenery, fine. But if you want a plot you can sink your teeth into then this one will leave you hungry.

Unrated but for mature audiences due to thematic material and brief nudity/sexuality. I give it a C over all. Only enough for a passing grade.
