Elemental – now in theaters – is a cute story about family, relationships, and following your dreams. With creative, original creations the writers take every advantage of those characteristics to show how our differences can draw us closer.
Synopsis: Disney and Pixar’s “Elemental” is an all-new, original feature film set in Element City. Fire-, Water-, Earth- and Air-residents live together. The story introduces Ember, a tough, quick-witted and fiery young woman, whose friendship with a fun, sappy, go-with-the-flow guy named Wade challenges her beliefs about the world they live in.
Ember (Leah Lewis) is in position to take over her father’s store in Firetown. Ember’s parents came to Element City with nothing but a dream. The true immigrant story. When all they have worked for is on the verge of destruction Ember has to join up with Wade (Mamoudou Athie) – from the wetter side of town – to save it all. It is this story arc that takes them on a adventure that might just lead to something more.
Like previous Pixar films, ELEMENTAL does a wonderful job of using non human characters to tell such a very human story. Full of metaphors and hilarious play on words it brings to light such strong truths without ever being preachy.
All the elements are here
Zootopia used animal species to create sections of city environments. The same is true with this one. What they eat, how they live, their emotions; all are birthed from the core elements. This film released Father’s Day weekend which is perfect for the heart of the tale. I appreciated how this one focused on the role and importance of Fathers in family and culture.
Also as in Pixar’s past there is a lot of humor in this one for kids and adults. Elemental is able to appeal to all without offending any. Not a small feet these days. It is rated PG for some peril, thematic elements and brief language. The story moves well and with a run time of 1:49 you should be able to get out before too much fidgeting; from dad.
