First dates can be rough. In this mind-bending action thriller from the director of Happy Death Day, they can also be deadly. Violet (Meghann Fahy, The White Lotus) is a widowed mother who has worked up the courage to go on her first date in years with a charming photographer named Henry. The cute couple’s killer chemistry is rudely interrupted by a series of anonymous drops to Violet’s phone showing a masked intruder entering her home and ordering her to follow a series of instructions. Violet must do exactly as she’s told or her loved ones will die. Her unseen tormentor’s final directive? Kill Henry.

DROP is an intense, fun, and at times creepy film that reminds us that less is often more. You can put two characters in an extreme situation and the audience is instantly right there with them. Add in a unique use of digital interaction and the rest will take care of itself. For the most part. There is also several humorous moments to lighten the mood. Some from Violet’s interaction with her sister Jen (Violett Beane), but most coming from an over the top waiter named Matt (Jeffery Self). Blumhouse has released a few clunkers lately but this puts them right back in the game. it is the perfect first, or last, date movie. You will not be disappointed. – READ MY THEATRICAL REVIEW
