Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” releases in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access on July 30, 2021.
Commentary: Disney’s JUNGLE CRUISE does so many things right which could score it high at the box office. It gave me the same feels as the Indiana Jones and Pirates of the Caribbean films. Loads of action set among stunning visuals and wall to wall humor it is destined to be a Disney classic. I was worried about the PG-13 rating, but other some some stylized violence, a few scary images, and mild peril it is pretty safe. I watched it with my 9 year old who loved every minute of it. Synopsis: Join fan favorites Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt for the adventure of a lifetime on Disney’s “Jungle Cruise,” a rollicking thrill-ride down the Amazon with wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff and intrepid researcher Dr. Lily Houghton. Lily travels from London, England to the Amazon jungle and enlists Frank’s questionable services to guide her downriver on La Quila—his ramshackle-but-charming boat. Lily is determined to uncover an ancient tree with unparalleled healing abilities—possessing the power to change the future of medicine. Thrust on this epic quest together, the unlikely duo encounters innumerable dangers and supernatural forces, all lurking in the deceptive beauty of the lush rainforest. But as the secrets of the lost tree unfold, the stakes reach even higher for Lily and Frank and their fate—and mankind’s—hangs in the balance.
continued… The cast is fun to watch together. Dwayne Johnson might be too familiar of a face since we see him in just about everything. But watching this I am not sure who else I would pick for the role. Blunt we see a lot too but seldom in this type of comic adventure. She tackles the character wonderfully and juggles the Rock perfectly. The two have a wonderful on screen chemistry.
The question in this covid ae is always, should I see it on the big screen or pay the premiere price and enjoy it at home? Though either experience would be worth while I do encourage you to see this one on the big screen if possible. It has a boat load of sights and sounds that are made for the theater. Just stay safe out there.
I liked the story which reminded me of the Indiana Jones saga. Tales of curses and hidden worlds propels this one along nicely. The Amazon is a backdrop that you can fill with all things imaginable and it is a wonder filled place all its own. As our characters journey along we get surprise after surprise. All of it bundled up in humor.
As mentioned it is rated PG-13 for sequences of adventure violence. Only you know your kids so be a good parent and use smart judgement. For the adults I do warn you that there are lots of dad jokes and puns in this one so be ready to give your eyes a good workout as you roll them around.
