DC League of Super-Pets

DC League of Super-Pets is a funny story with laughs for all age groups. Many who see it in the theater may find themselves wondering why they aren’t just watching it at home. The animation is a tad underwhelming, and regardless of the high profile voice actors; it often feels flat.

Synopsis: Krypto the Super-Dog and Superman are inseparable best friends, sharing the same superpowers and fighting crime side by side in Metropolis. However, Krypto must master his own powers for a rescue mission when Superman is kidnapped.

Fans of the DC universe will appreciate the humor and jabs this one takes at the super-hero world. Pet lovers will enjoy the message of rescue, loyalty, and how much joy our pets bring. It goes without saying that if you are into both of these things, this film is your jam.

Is there such a thing as over saturation when it comes to recognizable actors?

Kevin Hart (Ace) and Dwayne Johnson (Krypto) are two of the hottest faces – and voices – in entertainment today. So much so that they seem to be everywhere. Does this take away from the ability for audiences to connect with the characters? A little. We have seen it in the past with other actors – Freeman, Neeson – to the point that all the roles seem the same.

That aside kids will not care and this is a film for them. There are lessons about friendship, loyalty, and sacrifice. Having them taught from cute animals is a bonus. Many of the Justice League heroes appear here as well. Having it not be just Superman and his pup helps the depth.

To circle back to the voice talent, John Krasinski (Superman) and Kate McKinnon (Lulu) are perfect in this one, yet at times you may not even recognize them. That is the balance of talent without over abundance.

DC League of Super-Pets is in theaters and rated PG. It is enjoyable but not record setting. Better served in your home than in a high dollar theater. Other than the hilarious – more adult – turtle most of the humor is in the trailer.
