cat people

Cat People releases on a 4K Blu-ray Combo Pack August 30th from Scream Factory. If there was a category for movies I watched on HBO over and over again as a teenager it would be in there for sure. This 1982 film left a lasting impression even if I couldn’t remember all the details. None of us could forget Nastassja Kinski though in a role that pushed the limits of seductive horror.

It’s time to unleash our primal animal nature and succumb to the unbridled cravings for a generous dose of suspense, unspeakable desire and old-fashioned thrills when CAT PEOPLE COLLECTOR’S EDITION comes in a 4KUHD™+Blu-ray™ combo pack from SCREAM FACTORY. Special features include a new 4K scan from the original camera negative and special bonus content.

I am not sure I have watched this film since its 1982 release, and was surprised at the familiar faces that are in it. Actors who at the time were probably new to me like John Heard (the dad from Home Alone) , Ed Begley Jr. Annette O’Toole, and Ruby Dee. Seeing them in a classic like this adds to the cool factor.

The story of Cat People is still creepy. It is certainly not one to sit down and watch with the whole family – even the adults. I have mentioned before that the 80s were different. Should I have watched this as a young high schooler? Maybe not. At the same time, if it was on TV we watched it. Or maybe that was just my house.

The 4K version looks pretty decent. Some of the darker scenes still felt a little grainy, but overall it was crisp and sounded great. I hope that more of these classic films get released on 4K disc so that we don’t forget about them.
