Locked away in an old house in and around Montana, we see her acting increasingly agitated and erratic, leaving her companion, Jackson, increasingly worried and helpless. | 1hr 59m | Rated R for sexual content, graphic nudity, language, and some violent content.

(Transcribed from my video review below) Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Pattinson, in a little comedy called Die My Love. Just kidding. It is far from a comedy. Don’t rush out now thinking, “Oh, it’s going to be funny”, and not read the rest of this review. It’s not a comedy. In fact, it’s sort of a heavy sad drama, thriller… I don’t know what it is. If you saw the movie Mother, which was Darren Aronofsky’s movie, which came out several years ago that also starred Jennifer Lawrence and you remember how odd that film was, this felt like either a sequel or a prequel or it felt like in that vibe and not just because Jennifer Lawrence was in it, who I love.

By the way, the reason I stopped and watched this movie, the reason it was on the radar, the reason I reached out to the rep a few weeks ago and said, “Hey, get me a screener for this. I really want to see it.” It’s because I am such a fan of Jennifer. I just think that everything she does is so organic. It’s so grounded. She’s so comfortable in every character that she plays.

Now, a lot of people are going to say, “Well, she’s always the same in everything she does.” Shut up. She’s not the same. And even if she is, that’s okay because we like what she gives us. And I think she is very comfortable in the roles that she’s given. I think she likes the roles for the most part and just likes acting and bringing characters to life. So, I’m always been a fan of Jennifer Lawrence.

And then pairing her with Robert Pattinson, I was like, how’s she going to do with Batman? We’re going to see because he is again another actor who I am a fan of who takes on odd roles who brings this sort of angst and darkness. I’ve said this before, he’s probably my favorite Batman ever. Robert is because I think when we see him not as Batman, but when we see him as Bruce Wayne, he gives us the most authentic what I feel like Bruce Wayne would be. So, I’m a fan of both of these people.

Die my love is a mess and it’s not a mess because of Robert or Jennifer. It is just a mess because of editing, because of story or lack of story, because of just the direction of nothing happening for an hour and 59 minutes. So, anything that happens with this movie, any negative feedback, I just I can’t blame Jennifer or Robert. Who can I blame? Lynn Ramsay, who is the director and co-writer on this. I mean, maybe that’s the blame right there. I don’t know who took control of the editing.

Grace is this character that Jennifer Lawrence plays. She’s a writer. We never see her write anything, but she is a young mother, which we see her be a young mother through the whole thing. And she’s slowly slipping into what they call madness, which it alludes to the fact that maybe it’s just postpartum depression that she’s going through, which is a very real, So, they allude to the fact that that’s what she’s going through, but they keep calling it some sort of madness.

She’s locked away in this old house. Again, not locked away. They move out into this old house that they’re redoing which I believe turned out to be Robert Patton’s character, her husband, it was his uncle’s house. So they move out there. They’re redoing this house. It is kind of remote and removed. Grace doesn’t have a lot of interaction. She’s got a lot of time just to be in her own head. And for some of us, that’s the scariest place to be. She starts acting erratic and just doing weird stuff. And she crawls around on all fours a lot, which I don’t know. I don’t know why. I don’t know if this is just something Jennifer decided to do with the character or if the director was like, “Hey, go crawl around on all fours in the grass. We’re going to make this a Terrence Malik film.” I don’t know what’s going on with this, but anyway, t’s all about this mom who’s just, I think, is bored and depressed but she loves her kid.

I mean, she dotes on her son and wants nothing more than to protect him and love him. So it’s not like a mom who wants to abandon her motherness and she also wants to be with her husband. She is very very attracted to her husband which we see a few times in this film. So it’s not that but because of her quirkiness and and oddness he’s kind of slipping away from her and you don’t know why. And so again there’s a lot in this movie that we just don’t understand. We don’t know what’s going on. We don’t really understand it.

And then there’s a lot of flashback episodes and episodes that aren’t flashbacks. There’s some things that happened toward the end that I thought was a flashback. And I even texted one of my friends who is a critic that saw it and I was like, “Hey, was this a flashback? Did I miss something?” And they were as confused as I was. So, I wasn’t alone in that. So, it jumps all over the place. We just see Jennifer’s character, Grace, just doing odd things, but not odd with an end in sight. Her husband Jackson doesn’t know what to do either. Her husband Jackson’s a lot like the viewers in this movie. We’re just watching from the sidelines thinking, I don’t know what to do with this. We’re like Jennifer Lawrence, we love her but we don’t know what to do with this film.

Again, as I mentioned at the top of this discussion, what I love about Jennifer Lawrence is she’s so organic. she is comfortable with or without clothes and she could just walk naked through a field and be like, you know what, I’m just comfortable in my own body and my own skin and my own character. And it becomes something that’s not lustful. It’s not salacious. It’s just this character. And I I love how Jennifer is comfortable enough that it makes us comfortable. But again, when you don’t have a script, when you don’t have a solid direction, when you don’t have good editing, it doesn’t matter how great the performances are.

Most people may wait and watch this at home with growing ticket prices and concession stands. They may be like, “You know what? I want to watch Jennifer Lawrence crawl around on all fours in my own house. So, you know, that’s cool, too. I would say do it just to support J-Law. If you’re a fan and you just want to be able when you see her face to face go, I’ve watched all your movies, then go watch it. But that would probably be the only reason to do it.

Die My Love, is rated R. It’s a hard R. Mainly just because of the overall dark themes about it. There is a lot of nudity in this with sexual moments and some sexual dialogue. Die My Love in theaters or it’s probably going to be hitting streaming pretty soon.
