A reluctant young man (played by Billy Crudup) must drive his elderly and grouchy father-in-law (Frank Langella) to Oregon in order to be legally euthanized. Along their cross country road trip, the family encounters stressful situations, heart-to-heart talks, and moments of self reflection. While the family may have an alcoholic grandmother (Mary Kay Place), a stressed-out mother (Christina Applegate), a pair of rebellious children (Nicola Peltz and Alex Shaffer), and an estranged uncle (Josh Lucas) the family slowly learns the importance of supporting each other through thick and thin.

The film has a drawn-out pace, much like a road trip that feels just a little bit too long. Did we have to take that half-day detour to see that one spot? Should we have spaced out our driving time better? Youth In Oregon had an interesting concept and some unique shots but the plot drags and seems to take a pause too long in its self-reflecting moments.

I give Youth in Oregon a 2 out of 5. The story was in the right place, but it did not present a memorable or fully enjoyable film. The DVD comes out on April 4th and is available for digital streaming now.
