In 1917 at the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield (MacKay) and Blake (Chapman) are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers—Blake’s own brother among them. 1917 comes to Digital, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-rayTM and DVD with bonus content showcasing the incredible craft and artistry behind the immersive feature, including a detailed look into the production design, how the film engineered a one shot, 360-degree format and interviews with the cast and crew.

This film was in my top three of 2019. Though not normally a fan of the war genre, the submersing nature of the film and the powerful story had me engaged from scene to scene. I am not sure how much I breathed in that 119 minutes but it couldn’t have been much. I viewed it several times during award season and it never lost any of its intrigue or entertainment value.

Now that it is on digital and blu-ray it will certainly be viewed often in my home and as I travel. I always have go-to films in my devises and 1917 will be one of those. Plus the loads of bonus features – do not skip over THE MUSIC OF 1917 as this had a fantastic score – take you behind the scenes as Deakins and Mendes create cinematic greatness. (Matt Mungle)
