THE TRIP TO SPAIN opens Friday, August 18 at The Magnolia in Dallas and other select theaters.

Synopsis: After jaunts through northern England and Italy, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon embark on another deliciously deadpan culinary road trip. This time around, the guys head to Spain to sample the best of the country’s gastronomic offerings in between rounds of their hilariously off-the-cuff banter. Over plates of pintxos and paella, the pair exchange barbs and their patented celebrity impressions, as well as more serious reflections on what it means to settle into middle age. As always, the locales are breathtaking, the cuisine to die for, and the humor delightfully devilish.

Review: The Trip to Spain is a very funny film for the right audience. Coogan and Brydon are perfect at reflecting the thoughts of middle aged men in a way that is relatable and hilarious. These two guys are comfortable with each other and like many best friends they use that camaraderie to boost the confidence of the humor. The movie made me want to call up my high school pal and hit the road.

Both actors are accomplished writers and are willing to put their own insecurities out there for our amusement. Plus you can tell that they like poking fun at each other without losing respect or hitting below the belt. Along with the humor is a ton of good food and beautiful country side as they travel through out Spain. It is a perfect blend of culture and comedy. I am more familiar with Coogan but it took very little time for me to become a fan of Brydon. His dry wit and grounded personality is accentuated by his spot on celebrity impressions – especially of Michael Caine – and his ability to pick on Coogan expertly.

THE TRIP TO SPAIN is unrated and other than a brief moment of adult language it is a safe and fun outing. Granted the themes and discussions are going to gravitate to an older audience. I give it three out of five Brandos. Loved these guys together and will now go back and watch some of the previous adventures for sure.
